The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) has expanded its Moving Through Cancer Exercise Program Directory, enhancing support for cancer survivors, clinicians, and exercise professionals seeking personalized rehabilitation options.
Now featuring over 2,300 programs, the updated directory introduces the EXCEEDS algorithm, a new evidence-based triage tool that helps match individuals with programs suited to their functional abilities, symptoms, and recovery goals. The directory categorizes programs into four levels of care—from outpatient cancer rehabilitation to general exercise programs—streamlining referrals for both clinical and community settings.
“This next generation directory moves us closer to our vision of ensuring all people living with and beyond cancer are assessed, advised, referred to and engaged in appropriate exercise and rehabilitation programming as a standard of care,” said Moving Through Cancer Founder Kathryn Schmitz, PhD, MPH, FACSM. “There has never been easier access to a broader range of customized programs designed to help patients win the battle against cancer.”
With research showing the positive impact of physical activity on cancer treatment, recovery, and prevention of recurrence, the enhanced directory aims to make specialized programs more accessible to cancer survivors.
The EXCEEDS algorithm, developed by Dr. Kelley Wood, is designed to simplify access by helping survivors and care teams quickly identify appropriate resources.
More information and access to the directory is available at Moving Through Cancer.
