Fitness Industry Canada to Host Webinar on GLP-1 Medications and the Future of Fitness Coaching

Fitness Industry Canada (FIC) is set to host a timely webinar examining one of the fastest-moving topics impacting fitness professionals today: the rise of GLP-1 weight loss medications and their implications for exercise programming, coaching, and client care.

Scheduled for May 21 at 1:00 p.m. EDT, The GLP-1 & Fitness Integration Synergy: Insights for the Fitness and Healthcare Industries will feature Dr. Ian Patton, Director of Advocacy and Public Engagement at Obesity Canada. The session aims to provide fitness operators, trainers, and wellness professionals with practical, science-based guidance on supporting clients using medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy.

As GLP-1 therapies become increasingly mainstream, fitness professionals are facing new questions around exercise adaptation, nutrition support, recovery, and long-term health management. The webinar will explore several key issues, including strategies to help clients preserve lean muscle mass during weight loss, approaches to modifying workouts for individuals experiencing side effects such as nausea or fatigue, and the evolving role of trainers as long-term health and maintenance partners rather than solely weight-loss coaches.

The session will also address communication and collaboration between fitness professionals and healthcare providers, helping attendees better understand how to support clients while remaining within professional scope of practice.

With demand for evidence-based education growing across the fitness sector, the webinar reflects the increasing intersection between healthcare, obesity management, and exercise programming.

Registration for the webinar is available through the Fitness Industry Council of Canada.
