Last week, Gabriel Hardy released a social media video featuring a familiar face in the starring role: Pierre Poilievre, pushing sleds, swinging kettlebells, and jumping plyometric boxes.

Surrounded by a who’s who of Quebec fitness influencers, the message was unmistakable. This is a leader who doesn’t just talk about discipline and health—he lives it. Fitness, the video signals, is not a side hobby or personal quirk, but an essential part of daily life, and one the Conservative government intends to elevate as a national priority.

For those in the fitness industry, this moment feels less like a surprise and more like a continuation. Hardy, a registered kinesiologist and gym owner, was previously the Executive Director of the Fitness Industry Council of Canada. Since his election, he has already made waves in the House of Commons, standing up to question government policy and spending related to physical activity.

Whether this momentum leads to tangible policy change remains to be seen. But the signal is clear: physical activity is moving from the gym floor into Canada’s political conversation—and the fitness industry should be paying attention.
