The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) has released its 2025 HFA Global Report, providing a comprehensive look at the state of the fitness industry worldwide. The report reflects continued momentum in consumer demand, membership levels, and integration of fitness with healthcare and public policy.
Covering insights from nearly 30 countries, the latest edition saw increased partner contributions and survey participation compared to 2024—an indicator of growing engagement within the global fitness community.
Among countries with year-over-year data, fitness industry revenue grew by an average of 8% between 2023 and 2024. The number of facilities rose nearly 4%, while total membership increased by 6%, showing resilience and expansion across diverse markets.
“More people than ever are viewing fitness as essential, not optional,” said HFA President and CEO Liz Clark. “This year’s report highlights not just where the industry is going, but also how operators, advocates, and consumers are shaping that future together. We’re proud to work alongside so many international partners to tell this story.”
The report includes analysis of consumer trends, operator growth strategies, and global rankings of fitness brands by revenue and location count. Policy developments are also highlighted from markets such as Australia, Brazil, and the United States, where fitness is gaining traction in public health initiatives, tax reform, and healthcare integration.
Survey data points to optimism for 2025, with 91% of operators expecting revenue growth, over 83% anticipating improved profitability, and a majority projecting continued membership gains.
“The Global Report is one of the most important resources we provide because it brings together market data, consumer trends, and policy developments from across the world in one place,” said Clark. “It offers a clear picture of where the industry is going and how stakeholders can help shape its future.”
This year’s edition features expanded proprietary research from HFA, including studies on Latin American consumer behaviour, gym membership price sensitivity, and U.S. attitudes toward the industry. It also includes updated operator rankings and a new directory of leading global brands.
The 2025 HFA Global Report is available in PDF format. HFA members can access it for free, while non-members can purchase it for $299.
