Middle East fitness chain GymNation has introduced a new class format designed to prioritize rest rather than exertion, launching NapTime™, a guided recovery session structured around relaxation and sleep.
The class debuted to coincide with World Sleep Day and reflects growing concern around sleep deprivation across the UAE and the wider Gulf region. According to regional data cited by the company, only about one in five adults achieve the recommended eight hours of sleep per night, while a similar proportion report sleeping five hours or less.
Unlike traditional fitness classes, NapTime™ is designed to guide participants through a series of relaxation stages aimed at preparing the body for rest. The 45-minute session begins with gentle yoga-based stretching followed by guided breathing exercises and meditation before transitioning into a dedicated sleep period. The environment includes beds, blankets, eye masks and live ambient music intended to promote relaxation.
A key feature of the class is a phone-free policy, with participants required to place their devices in a secure box before the session begins. The approach is intended to reduce digital stimulation and encourage participants to disconnect, as research shows screen exposure before bedtime can disrupt sleep patterns.
GymNation says the concept reflects a broader shift within the fitness industry toward recovery-focused programming, as operators increasingly integrate modalities such as breathwork, mobility training and sleep optimization alongside traditional workouts.
Industry observers note that recovery services — including stretching, meditation, cold exposure and sleep-focused programming — are becoming a growing category within fitness facilities globally, as members look for ways to improve overall health, performance and mental well-being.
Founded in 2017, GymNation operates a network of gyms across the Gulf Cooperation Council region, with plans for further expansion in Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.
