Lifting Marketing to a Whole New Level
Dubai is no stranger to world records, but this latest feat may be the heaviest of them all. GymNation, the Middle East’s largest gym chain, has officially unveiled what it’s calling the world’s heaviest permanent billboard — tipping the scales at a staggering one tonne.
Constructed from forty weight plates bolted together, the billboard doesn’t just advertise GymNation’s new “Strongman” class — it embodies it. The message across the massive metal masterpiece reads:
“THE ONLY BILLBOARD THAT NEEDS A SPOTTER.”
According to Chief Marketing Officer Rory McEntee, the installation required a team of “strong muscle-bound men and women” to hoist it into place — though thankfully, no hernias were reported in the process.
A Billboard That Bench Presses the Competition
The record-breaking advertisement, which marks the first time a UAE gym has built its own billboard, is permanently installed at GymNation’s Mirdif location. Due to its extraordinary weight, Health & Safety reps reportedly cordoned off the area with perimeter tape, just in case the wall felt the burn.
McEntee joked, “Advertising in the UAE needed a lift, so we took that literally. The result is the world’s heaviest billboard, built to celebrate strength in every form.”
He added that the concept was inspired by the brand’s new Strongman class, launching every Saturday at 10 a.m. The class includes a full slate of classic strongman challenges — deadlifts, tyre flips, log presses, and farmer’s walks — designed to help members “find their inner strong man or woman.”
Strongman Class: Where Heavy Is Just the Beginning
GymNation’s new Strongman program was developed in collaboration with its expert fitness instructors and aims to bring a taste of The World’s Strongest Man competition to everyday gym-goers.
“Members can expect to shift some serious heavy loads,” said McEntee. “It’s a celebration of power, perseverance, and people who don’t skip leg day.”
For safety, the gym gently reminds curious passersby to admire the billboard from a respectful distance — “preferably outside the perimeter tape.”
The People’s Gym, Still Raising the Bar
Founded in 2017, GymNation has built a reputation as The People’s Gym, combining accessibility, affordability, and a sense of humour to make fitness less intimidating. The company currently operates 14 locations across the UAE and 14 in Saudi Arabia, with plans to reach 50 gyms and 250,000 members by the end of 2025.
With this latest stunt, GymNation has proven that in fitness — and marketing — sometimes it pays to go heavy.
