The Health & Fitness Association (HFA, formerly IHRSA) has extended the deadline for its 2025 Employee Compensation & Benefits Survey to December 5, 2025, giving owners and operators in Canada and the U.S. more time to participate. This is the first comprehensive look at pay, benefits, and staffing structures across the fitness industry in both countries since 2018.

The survey is open to health clubs, gyms, studios, and other fitness facilities, and is best completed by leaders overseeing HR, finance, or operations. Results will form the 2025 Fitness Industry Employee Compensation & Benefits Report, providing benchmarks by segment, region, and revenue tier to help operators answer questions such as:

  • How does our pay and benefits package compare?
  • What does competitive compensation look like for new or evolving roles?
  • Where can we adjust to better attract and retain staff?
  • How do we balance market competitiveness with ROI?

Participating facilities receive a free copy of the final report, along with data to inform pay structures, workforce planning, and recruitment strategies. Responses also feed into HFA’s advocacy work, helping demonstrate to policymakers that fitness facilities are significant employers across North America. Those who complete the survey by December 5 are entered for a chance to win one of five all-access passes to The HFA Show 2026 in San Diego for themselves and a guest (value up to US$1,750).

All responses are handled by Industry Insights, Inc. (Dublin, Ohio) and kept strictly confidential; only aggregated U.S. and Canadian results will be reported.

A Note to Canadian Operators

For Canadian club owners and operators, this is a rare opportunity to ensure Canadian compensation realities are properly reflected in a major North American dataset. The more Canadian respondents participate, the more useful and credible the benchmarks will be for this market—especially as operators navigate wage pressures, retention challenges, and expanding staff roles in wellness, recovery, and medical-adjacent services. FitBizWeekly encourages Canadian operators to carve out time before December 5 to complete and/or forward the survey to their HR or finance lead.

How to Take Part
  • Complete the survey by December 5, 2025.
  • Share the link internally with HR/finance and with peer operators at other facilities.
  • Download the PDF questionnaire to gather your data in advance, then submit online.
  • Fill out as much as possible—if sections don’t apply, simply skip ahead. Every response strengthens the quality of the final benchmarks.
