The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) has released its 2025 Fitness Industry Benchmarking Report, offering the most comprehensive look at financial and operational performance across the fitness sector since 2019. The findings reveal an industry showing both resilience and strength, with operators reporting solid growth, profitability, and member retention.
Drawing on confidential data from 175 companies representing over 17,000 fitness facilities, the report found median revenue growth of 9.9% in 2024 and a median EBITDA margin of 23.6%. Facilities also saw net membership growth of 5.5%, retaining roughly two-thirds of their members.
“The 2025 Fitness Industry Benchmarking Report confirms what we’ve long known: fitness is good business,” said Liz Clark, president and CEO of the Health & Fitness Association. “The benchmarks in this report highlight not only the industry’s profitability but also the investments operators are making in facilities, services, and member experiences to ensure sustainable growth.”
The report includes detailed metrics on revenue per club, dues and non-dues income, profitability ratios, reinvestment trends, and programming and amenity offerings, with breakouts by club size, type, and dues level. According to Anton Severin, HFA’s vice president of research, the data allows operators “to benchmark against peers of similar size and type” and identify new opportunities for improvement and investment.
To further explore the findings, HFA will host a webinar on October 23 at 11:00 a.m. ET, open to survey contributors and HFA members. The full report is available free to Premium and Standard HFA members and industry partners, or for purchase by non-members for USD $699.
