This is the mission of the Fitness Industry Council of Canada (FIC), who are throwing a national fitness party on Saturday June 3rd for National Health and Fitness Day. “We are inviting all our members to bring a friend, we are inviting Canadians who haven’t been active to come back and see what they have been missing,” says Gabriel Hardy. “And we are opening our doors to the public for free to show Canadians that their physical and mental health is our priority.”

FitBizWeekly sat down with FIC Executive Director Gabriel Hardy in advance of National Health and Fitness Day to find out all the details:

FBW: If you aren’t an FIC member, can you still take part?

GH: Absolutely! We would love to know what you’re doing, and you can email us communications@ficdn.ca to tell us that you are hosting a National Health and Fitness Day event, or are simply opening up to the public!

FBW: Are there ways to promote it on social media?

GH: Fitness Industry Council of Canada is working alongside dozens of Canadian non-for profit associations and health agencies to encourage Canadians to move. We have created a social media Gift Card with NHFD / FIC logos for a “Bring a Friend To Fitness” for you to use for your facilities. Please share this with your members well in advance!

Similar to 2021 and 2022, we will be actively taking part in the National Health and Fitness Day social media campaign “Show Us Your Moves Canada” and “Let’s Move Canada.” The National Health and Fitness Day organizing committee has created an extensive TOOLKIT you can access here, including English and French social media assets, a letter to influencers and ideas for social media posts. We hope you will be part of this plan! The true heart of the social media and media campaign will begin Monday, May 29th until Saturday, June 3rd FIC will be sharing all of your events and reposting on our social media channels.

Use the hash-tags #showusyourmoves and #letsmovecanada

FBW: What event can I throw?

GH: We are encouraging club operators to re-brand a fitness class / event in their facility where you can draw media, politicians and fitness influencers to generate a buzz. A national fitness party should be a party – get creative! This is a great way to bring new members to our facilities, and welcome back ones who have been away!.  Please share your events with Erin Phelan, FIC communications@ficdn.ca

FBW: What else can I do?

GH: We have written a template email / letter to send to your local MP / MPP / city politicians to invite them to your facility/event that day to join the fun and show them how we MOVE!

Please let us know your plans for National Health and Fitness Day!  Email communications@ficdn.ca to RSVP and let us know about your events.

If you would like to attend the FIC National Call this Friday, May 26th at 1:30 PM we welcome all fitness businesses. Save the date in your calendar: here is the link for this event.
