Kirin’s proposed C$2.5-billion acquisition of the Canadian supplement company underscores continued investment in nutrition, preventive health and wellness categories closely connected to the fitness industry.

Japanese food, beverage and health-science company Kirin Holdings has agreed to acquire Toronto-based Jamieson Wellness in a transaction valued at approximately C$2.5 billion, a deal that highlights the growing strategic value being placed on nutrition, preventive health and consumer wellness.
Under the agreement announced August 6, Kirin will acquire all outstanding Jamieson Wellness shares for C$45.75 per share in cash. Jamieson’s board has unanimously recommended the transaction, which remains subject to shareholder, court and regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. Jamieson shareholders are scheduled to vote on the arrangement September 30.
For Canada’s fitness industry, the significance of the deal extends beyond the ownership of one of the country’s best-known vitamin and supplement brands. Kirin has identified health science as a major long-term growth area and says Jamieson will provide the foundation for expanding that business across North America. The acquisition follows Kirin’s broader investment in health and wellness businesses and reflects continued corporate interest in categories increasingly interconnected with fitness, including nutrition, healthy aging, recovery and preventive health.
Jamieson’s recent performance also points to sustained consumer demand. In its second quarter, the company reported consolidated revenue of C$233.8 million, up 17.4% year over year, with Jamieson Brands revenue increasing 18.6%. In Canada, the company cited increased consumption, retailer promotions and innovation in areas including sleep and stress as contributors to growth.
That broader shift matters to gym and studio operators because the boundaries between fitness, nutrition and wellness continue to narrow. Consumers increasingly view exercise alongside supplementation, recovery, sleep, metabolic health and healthy aging rather than as a stand-alone activity. The value attached to Jamieson therefore provides another indication that major companies see long-term opportunity in serving a more holistic health-oriented consumer.
For fitness professionals and operators, the takeaway is less about the transaction itself and more about the market it represents. As investment continues to flow into nutrition and health science, clubs and studios may have growing opportunities to position themselves as part of a wider wellness ecosystem through education, partnerships and complementary services, while remaining within the appropriate scope of practice for nutrition and health advice.
Jamieson Wellness, founded more than a century ago, describes Jamieson as Canada’s leading vitamins, minerals and supplements brand. Kirin has said the Canadian company will become a key platform for its health-science expansion in North America and other international markets.
