National Health and Fitness Day is right around the corner. On Saturday June 3rd, Fitness Industry Council of Canada will encourage fitness facilities all across the country to open their doors to the public for the day for free access and inspiring their members to bring their friends and family. FIC facilities across Canada will host special events to mark this incredible day, and have our fitness professionals on hand to answer questions! All FIC events will be found on FIC’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Linked in and Twitter).
We are inviting all Canadians, politicians and private industry to be part of the MOVEMENT movement. “Physical activity is the single greatest tool we have for our physical and mental health,” says Sara Hodson, President of Fitness Industry Council of Canada. “We don’t need an excuse to move, but National Health and Fitness Day gives Canada a great one!”
National Health and Fitness Day was spearheaded by former Canadian Senator Nancy Greene-Raine after the 2010 Vancouver Olympics to mobilize the spirit of the games and make Canada the fittest country in the world! National Health and Fitness Day was passed unanimously through the Senate in June 2014, and since then MPs, MPPs, Senators and local city councilors, private businesses and fitness professionals from cities, towns and municipalities all across the country mark the event, inspiring Canadians to move!
Gabriel Hardy, Executive Director of FIC, says it is up to Canadians who already lead by example and live an active lifestyle to inspire their friends, family and colleagues to come out for the day. “We have facilities all across the country that are focused on wellness – mental, physical and social. Our fitness professionals are ready to help all Canadians gain the benefits of physical activity! They will understand that the first step they take inside our facilities will be the most powerful one of their lives! Let’s come together on National Health and Fitness Day to celebrate fitness and create a #MOVEMENTmovement.”
