On June 7, gyms, studios, community centres, and wellness spaces across the country have the opportunity to take part in something bigger than a single workout—it’s National Health and Fitness Day, and it’s our chance to show Canadians that movement is for everyone.
The Fitness Industry Council of Canada is calling on gyms and fitness facilities nationwide to open their doors to the public on this day—offering free access, group classes, and welcoming spaces for all. It’s a celebration of movement, community, and the power of exercise to connect, uplift, and inspire. Our message – Be a Positive Influencer – can be shared across your networks!
But here’s the real magic: this isn’t just a one-day event. It’s a membership strategy in motion.
Why This Works:
- Try Before They Buy: Giving non-members a chance to experience your space—your energy, instructors, and community—breaks down barriers to entry and builds trust. It’s the best kind of lead generation: authentic and high-impact.
- Bring a Friend, Build a Family: Encourage current members to bring a friend or family member for free. These social connections increase member satisfaction and drive new sign-ups. People stay where they feel known and connected.
- Community = Retention: Events like this build your brand as a hub for health and connection. When people feel your gym is part of something bigger, they’re more likely to join—and more likely to stay.
- Media & Social Momentum: Aligning with National Health and Fitness Day gives your club a platform to share your message, attract local media, and drive awareness in your community. Share your plans on social using #NHFD and #ExerciseIsMedicine.
Make June 7 Count
Whether it’s a free drop-in class, an outdoor bootcamp, a family-friendly open house, or a wellness workshop, your space can be part of a national movement to get Canadians moving—and staying active.
Let’s open our doors—and open the possibilities.
