Strava has introduced a new in-app “For a Cause” activity tag, giving its 180 million users a simple way to connect their workouts with charitable fundraising. The tool, developed in partnership with GoFundMe, allows athletes to dedicate any Strava activity to a nonprofit or individual GoFundMe fundraiser and share their efforts directly with their communities.
The feature integrates GoFundMe tools into the Strava experience, enabling users to start a fundraiser, link it to their activity feed, automatically log miles for supporters, and tag workouts with “For a Cause.” Each activity becomes an opportunity to raise awareness or encourage donations—whether running, cycling, hiking, or any of Strava’s 50+ activity types.
To launch the initiative, Strava and GoFundMe highlighted several nonprofit partners spanning major areas of public health and community support, including the American Cancer Society, Achilles International, Feeding America, the National MS Society, and Movember—the global men’s health charity whose signature fundraising events concluded last month.
Tim Cadogan, CEO of GoFundMe, noted the joint effort’s potential to amplify charitable giving:
“Through our collaboration with Strava, we’re giving a global community of active people a simple way to help one another, raise awareness, and support causes that move them – while enabling more giving to nonprofits that are driving positive change in the world.”
The collaboration reflects Strava’s ongoing focus on purpose-driven activity and community engagement, positioning movement as a catalyst for social impact.
